 Our History

Many long centuries ago, a floating city on a distant world was home to the Ancients. Its towering spires and complicated pathways looked deadly yet elegant at the same time. In a way, it reflected its creators. Elegant, beautiful and wise as they were, the Ancients were not a race to be crossed. Their power overwhelmed that of any other and now they were almost completing another task; harnessing the power of the elements.

A triumphant cry from deep within the city told of a breakthrough. High lord and council leader hastily made their way to Aadi. The young, sparky research scientist was grinning wildly as the others reached him. The look on the High lord's face expressed the question he almost asked, but Aadi answered him first.
"Two." Was all he needed to say. That was all the council needed to hear. It had been long foretold by Menkhari, the Ancient who oversaw all to do with the one time-travelling ship they had, that the powers of Water and Earth would soon be available to them. A plan had been previously arranged and the whole city knew what they had to do.

Within moments, the holders of authority in the city had announced the prediction true and that the Guardians were to be brought to the Grand Hall. Aadi, along with a small escort, was already there and waiting for this long-awaited day to take place.

The giggling and laughing of small voices echoed down a corridor littered with segments of old Ancient myths. Two unsuspecting, golden-haired children came into view with another, taller lady. The small girl was being carried by her mother with the older boy walking beside.

The girl giggled again as her mother's arm tickled her and a warning "Luthenya" was sent her way. Frowning, Luthenya's mood became less jolly, though she did stop giggling. The boy, Mankato, gave Luthenya a comforting smile and her mood lightened again, thankful she had such an understanding brother. Luthenya looked around the now-crowded Hall. She could make out a few familiar faces among the sea of people, but for the most part she did not know who looked back at her. They were smiling eagerly, like they were waiting for something. All of them, silent, like the nighttime. Another small child, younger than herself, called for her father. It made Luthenya stop and think; where was her father? It hadn't really occurred to her that he hadn't been around. Maybe he was away somewhere... Yes, that had to be it.

She barely noticed as the ceremony began. The words of the man infront of her became nothing but a drone of noise. Suddenly, her name was announced; and Mankato's too. Curious, Luthenya started to listen. Something about a distant planet, where Ancients of old had lived for a while. Earth, he called it, and Kato was to be the Guardian of this planet. Then he started talking about Atlantis, this place. Luthenya did not understand, but it seemed Mankato did. Not surprising, really; he was older than her.

Mankato bowed to the man and sat on what looked like a metal slab. It was connected to another slab next to it. Luthenya wondered if it was meant for her, but she didn't want to go. Small arms and kicking legs flailed as her mother tried to seat her on the slab, but a sharp tug on the ear made her stubborness subside.

Still frowning, Luthenya crossed her arms as though trying to say she didn't like being sat on a cold, hard slab of metal. Her temper cooled as she felt someone nudge her arm. It was Mankato; Kato as she liked to call him.
"It's alright, Lue." He said, smiling at her. Smiling back, Luthenya tried to listen to what the other man was saying now. Something about a glorious day, and how it had arrived. But to her, this day was just as ordinary as any other. She watched as the man touched a panel on the wall. It started glowing, like they all did, but Luthenya's attention soon switched to something else. A gasp of pain left both her and Kato as something ran through their bodies. Kato clasped Luthenya's hand, trying to tell her it was really alright.

After a moment that seemed like an eternity, the pain subsided. Instead there was a feeling of calm wisdom; the kind that told of power but also the intuition to use it properly. Luthenya cast a curious glance at Kato, who shrugged, seeming just as bewildered as herself. The man started talking again. Luthenya whirled round to where he was standing and gave him a sharp glare, wanting to punish him for hurting her brother and herself. The man merely glimpsed at her before turning away. Giving up, Luthenya turned back to Kato and shrugged. If either of the two of them knew what was really going on, it would probably have been Kato anyway.

Neither of them knew that, in fact, they had each been given the power of an element. One of two, in fact.
Kato had been given the power over Earth-like things and was to be the guardian of the planet, Earth, that Ancients had lived on long ago.
Luthenya had been given the power over Water-like things and was to be the guardian of Atlantis, their floating city, upon which they lived now.

Many months later, it was time for Mankato to say goodbye to his family and go to guard the planet he had been taught of for so long. He waved, smiling, always the optimistic one, as he left. He was seventeen by this time and able to take care of himself, yet the young girl of Luthenya still worried about his welfare. It wasn't easy, guarding a place. She had already begun training her powers so she could become the Guardian of Atlantis in two years, at the age of just ten years. She supposed it was easier for him to go and train on Earth. After all, Atlantis was floating on the sea. Water. It was easier for Luthenya here as she was practically surrounded by that which she controlled.

Once on Earth, Mankato took a shine to the humans already living there. He protected them against hostiles and didn't interfere when he wasn't needed. However, his love of these Earthlings stopped him from guiding them enough. They walked down the wrong path. They learnt greed, they learnt of power. They yearned more and more for the things they did not, or could not, have. Mankato still did not interrupt; he was too fascinated by how quickly they evolved and grew. Then it all became too much. They grew too powerful, too fast. They would not listen to his guidelines anymore, let alone anything else. They started wars and fighting, building warships and weapons, very powerful weapons. Mankato knew they would destroy themselves. He could not bear to watch that. So, he fled, fled to this place. Ellaris. His new home.

Back in Atlantis, the Wraith were wreaking havoc. Luthenya alone, now at 116, couldn't fight them all. Their own defencive weapons kept the Wraith at bay for a while, but it was quickly seen that all was lost. The Ancients fled to Earth, unaware of the state it had become. Luthenya was sent away, to a place where no Wraith knew. Ellaris. It was a protect planet, and no hostile had ever reached its orbit. She did not want to go; she wanted to say and fight. Her powers were strong enough to hold them off, but her fellow Ancients persuaded her to go to this other world. Atlantis was sunk, below the depths of the sea, so the wraith could not attack it anymore.

Luthenya arrived at Ellaris, sat down and cried. She hadn't wanted to leave. No, she had said that enough times. Her despair mostly came from fear; fear over who and what had survived. She knew most of the Ancients got through to Earth, but a few had stayed behind, ensuring Altantis sunk and the safety measures were put in place in case they ever returned. She cried still; she didn't know this land. Luthenya gasped and whirled round, standing up as a hand touched her shoulder. She was confronted by the smilling face of her brother... her lost brother. The boy who she had thought she would never see again. He was older now; looking nineteen. She herself looked sixteen. Some called it sweet sixteen. To her, it was no longer "sweet".
"Kato." She whispered as her took her in his arms; the hug she had not felt for over a century.

Mankato had been on Ellaris for a short while now and had come to know most of its places and reputations. He warned Luthenya of the West and told tales of the North. He showed her Immarthen, the center city. Luthenya soon took a liking to this place. It somehow seemed more peaceful than Atlantis had been in those last few decades. The Wraith had plagued their galaxy, yet this place was untouched, like a little safe-haven.

After a while, the Guardians' powers grew a little more and Luthenya found she could make ice-crystal things while Mankato found he could heal things. Deciding to build a little home-from-home, the two agreed to build their own place. Luthenya created the ice-crystal palace, trying her hardest to make it resemble Atlantis. Odd spires tower up in the sky, Ancient writing litters the walls; it was almost like they'd pulled part of Atlantis from that deep ocean it was submurged within.

However, this peaceful time was not to last. The Wraith had re-awoken and started harvesting from small planets. As Mankato had seen hardly anything of the Wraith, while Luthenya had lived through a battle with them, Luthenya took charge of the fight. She instructed others as to what they needed to do and used her own power and knowledge to prepare for the worst. She knew what the Wraith could do. It was very unlikely that they had built new weapons and ships since their last battle in Atlantis which gave her a little bit of an advantage. On the other hand, the Ellarans were a primitive race and only had a limited knowledge of weapons and the minerals necessary to build them.

Despite all their preparations, the Wraith came with overpowering force. City after city was burnt down and one Ellaran after another was taken but the Wraith numbers were dwindling. Luthenya persuaded Mankato to leave and run; her powers were strong enough to take care of the few remaining Wraiths. Mankato concentrated his efforts on getting Ellarans to safety, but regretted it soon after. Luthenya battled furiously with the last few Wraiths until just one was left, but this one was a Keeper. It took the most to get rid of these things and Luthenya was getting tired. More attacks from the Wraith were hitting her now and Luthenya couldn't keep up the necessary strength. She fell to the floor, saving her energy for her last and most powerful attack. Her blast of ice hit the Wraith as the lazer of its gun hit her. The Wraith was defeated, but Luthenya now fell unconcious.

Mankato found his sister lying on the blood-sodden ground. Her injuries covered her whole body apart from her face. He took Luthenya away from the battlefield and sat healing her for a week without caring or thinking about anything else. However, he knew he had to return to the palace she had built as Ellarans were being braver, coming up to ask them for guidance. Yet Mankato knew he could not let them see Luthenya in this state. Instead, he walked until he was nearby, then snuck inside when all had gone home for the night.

Once in the palace, Mankato took Luthenya straight to her room. The star-filled ceiling and water-blue walls fitted her perfectly, though now was not the perfect time to be gazing at colours and slipping into daydreams. No, instead Mankato lay Luthenya on her bed in the center of the room and used and old Ancient trick. They had pods, you see, that they could put one another inside. A kind of, stasis field. This Ancient trick was using the same technology, but without the pod. After Mankato had used this particular attribute of the technology, Luthenya was now deeply unconcious, remaining in suspended animation while she lay in that familiar room of hers. He now left her to try and heal herself the old fashioned way and attended to the needs of their fellow planet-dwellers, the Ellarans.
